Why Specs Matter
When it comes to true ballistic protection, not all steel is created equal.
While many defense solutions in the market rely on AR500 steel, Armorbloks is engineered using the same ballistic-grade armor the US military uses for almost all of their armored platofrms, including the M1 Abrams and the MRAP.
Armorbloks meets the performance benchmarks laid out in MIL-DTL-46100 (the US Army's standard for high-hardness armored steel) as well as UL752. This compliance ensures:
- Certified ballistic resistance against a wide range of weaponized projectiles
- Toughness and fracture-resistance under multi-hit impacts
- Consistent hardness performance, verified lot-by-lot rather than just 'assumed'
- Compliance with V50 testing via MIL-STD-662F procedures
The Problem with AR500
For armored defense projects, most companies will sell customers enormous panels of AR500 steel. This is a favored material because it's manufactured in the US and, on the outside, it seems tough enough for any job. The issue is that AR500 is "abrasion-resistant" steel, and it's not rated to protect against ballistic attacks at all. It's made to resist wear and tear, not bullets. That's why the most common application of AR500 is construction equipment, like bulldozer buckets and mining machinery.
Even though AR500 is a hard steel, it isn't tested under MIL-DTL-46100 or NIJ standards. Due to differing tempering processes among manufacturers, Brinell hardness and steel quality varies wildly from one batch to another.

What Makes Armorbloks Superior?
Unlike the thick, homogenous, and inefficient panels that other armored solutions offer, Armorbloks are a modular, multi-layered defense unit engineered for maximum protection:
- Initial Strike Plate is only 3.5mm thick but harder than any bullet it will encounter, including armor piercing rounds.
- Core is 13mm of ballistic fiberglass to absorb and disperse the impact energy.
- Back Plate is a 6.5mm thick steel plate, which is less hard than the strike plate, but tougher, to absorb the very high energy of projectiles like the 50 BMG, without cracking.
This composite sandwich will stop virtually everything you are likely to encounter on the planet.
Our Material Suppliers
Our steel is sourced directly from SSAB in Sweden, which has been the leader in armored steels for more than a century. There is no domestic equivalent to these superior materials. Our ballistic fiberglass is made in the US by Avient, a true innovator in the field.

Who Should Use Armorbloks?
- Military Testing Facilities
- Army Maintenance Depots & Retrofit Centers
- Border Security
- Live-Fire Shooting Ranges
- Law Enforcement Training Centers
- Data/Intel Centers
Whether you're installing a blast-proof wall at a testing facility or upgrading the security perimeter at a forward base, ArmorBloks gives you true ballistic protection, not industrial scrap metal in disguise.
